About Shandi
My name is Shandi Folmar, and I am a counseling intern here at Journey, where I’ve been completing my training since Fall 2025. I’m currently working toward my master’s in clinical psychology and plan to graduate in Fall 2026, with future goals of becoming a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) and eventually earning a Ph.D. in Clinical or Social Psychology.
I’m especially passionate about supporting LGBTQIA+ individuals, women, and other marginalized communities. My goal is to provide a safe, affirming space where clients feel truly heard, respected, and empowered. I believe healing happens in collaboration, and I work to honor each person’s unique strengths, challenges, and identity.
In my counseling work, I draw from approaches such as Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), and Person-Centered Therapy. I use these approaches in a flexible, trauma-informed way to meet clients where they are and help them move toward resilience, self-compassion, and growth, no matter where they start on this journey.
